Ben is obviously named after Leia’s only hope during the rebellion.
Solo = Only, One.
That means Leia literally named her beloved son “Only Hope.”

Crackdown on Whiny Fanboys
I finally saw TLJ with my own eyes. I’ve been a fan since I was a child. I grew up on this franchise since my mom introduced it to me with a late night viewing on a TV movie channel when I was about 8, and as a little girl realized my love of space and storytelling. I’m 21 now and it’s just as special to me now. That being said I saw TLJ and thought it was really wonderful. And that is why I’m pissed at Fanboys whining about it ruining everything. Mostly the manner in which they do it.
Let’s knock out a short list -
• “Too much humor”
It’s funny but is that so wrong? It brings a relatablity to it. I went with cousins who aren’t devoted fans and they said the humorous moments helped them delve into the world better because it felt like mannerisms that could happen between real people. That it didn’t seem so serious and detached. The humor is well balanced with the serious. Star Wars isn’t Star Trek it’s not supposed to be a very precise sci fi story. It’s a mix of fairytale, western and soap opera. You’re supposed to have fun sometimes. And it didn’t distract from the gravity of the story at all.
• “Leia in space was STUPID”
I heard about this and wanted to see for myself. I had heard all the Superman references and so on… I think the reaction was way overblown. Yes it was something never seen before in a use of the force but again this is fiction you shouldn’t go on complaining about the logistics. I thought it was a powerful moment and reminds us that Leia is equally gifted as Luke even if she doesn’t get the same attention for those qualities. Particularly the scene where her eyes opened and it was very silent was beautiful.
• “Finn gets stuck with that chubby Asian Chick”
This is a big one for me. I’ve seen awful things, cruel things said about Rose and it breaks my heart that those horrid people would say such things. Rose was a fantastic character and for being New was easily blended in and her chemistry with Finn was natural and genuine. In fact many of the times I felt emotional were in Rose scenes. Props to Kelly because she was able to deliver great facial expressions to match the emotional tone of a given scene. But most of all Rose was so brave and I don’t want to hear any pathetic bitch boys slander her. *sorry for the language but I draw the line at any body shaming and especially racially charged insults, get out of this fandom if that’s your take*

• “The Side Adventure with Finn and Rose was awful”
Okay I may be in the minority but this storyline did not bother me one bit. It was light and fun and covered important topics but not in a way that was as distracting as people claimed. People acted as if it was a drawn out PSA when it really wasn’t. It was observations. We see quick nods to the dangers of greed, child labor and animal abuse. Enough to show the wrongness and leave and impression but it was not some big thing that took away from anything at all. The casino was visually pleasing to the eye and was a good change of scenery from the place of war we are so used to. It helped us see a part of the galaxy, people and creatures whose lives go day to day removed from the two sided situation we mostly just get to see. A reminder of the little details and everyday happenings. That’s refreshing.
And I hate people saying that Finn didn’t have anything to do. That’s insane. He was able to show way more wit and bravery here than he got to do in TFA. And to me at least he didn’t seem like he was just there for comedic timing anymore. He got to be serious, sensitive and tactile adding much needed character growth and attention. He was still new to the resistance world and wasn’t afraid to accept that and joining with Rose didn’t hesitate to go off and complete a serious mission knowing his background gave him serious advantage.
• “Rey Nobody”
First off if you bitch about Rey now that she is a nobody you need to leave now because you don’t understand anything. Rey can be powerful and not have to be connected to known characters. As Daisy has said Rey shouldn’t be questioned that the only reason she can be powerful is because of family and not of her own merit. Not Skywalker, not Solo and as much as I love Kenobi not that either and that’s fine. Rey is powerful and fantastic for just being Rey and if you can’t appreciate her for that then that’s your problem.
• “Poe acting out of character”
This one I’ve heard never made sense to me as a complaint people had. Poe was superb! After not getting much story in TFA we finally get to really know Poe beyond just being a talented pilot. He’s humorous, extremely brave and a cunning and intelligent warrior. He rebels and so on but he knows what he’s doing even if others aren’t as understanding to his headstrong attitude. I really liked Poe in TFA but I absolutely adore him after seeing TLJ.
• “Luke is a coward”
Say that to my face because you’re the coward for even uttering such blasphemy. Luke is not a coward. Luke is not the same Luke you hold on a pedestal as a placeholder for your self inserting fantasies. He’s grown, he’s seen things and has been through things that gave him a quiet strength. You don’t have to prove your power in grandiose fights or shows of power. If you’re a “true” fan of Luke’s you can appreciate this development. Luke is still himself and if anything is stronger in body and spirit than before. Luke’s appearance at the final showdown carried great emotional weight and it doesn’t matter if he was there physically or not. Luke used all his strength to be there - to see Leia, to help the resistance and to apologize and meet Kylo which is the most important thing. Luke knew he couldn’t save him but his being there will have a profound impact on Kylo’s development and that is truly important. To see Luke going out after fighting for his family was a testament to his character and I don’t believe it will be in vain.
Those are just a few of many absurd claims I’ve heard. I’m just tired of people’s endless attacks on it. It’s ridiculous and exhausting. But if that’s your opinion and it upsets you so be it. Leave if you want to because we only have room in this fandom for true devotees. Those who love stories and characters and can look past flaws without ridicule. Stories evolve and change that’s inevitable but you have to be open. End of rant. Anyways if anyone wants to discuss the greatness of TLJ, Reylo, Finnrose, Poe Dameron or so on these are things I love and I’m always here for that, hit me up to fan girl anytime. To anyone hateful please leave.
